Kris Bauske will host a reading of a new script at the Osceola Center for the Arts, 2411 E. Irlo Bronson Hwy, Kissimmee, at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11. The reacing will take place in the music room.

The script is an adaptation of Susan Carol McCarthy’s novel, “Lay That Trumpet in Our Hands,”  which tells the true story of the McMahons, a Yankee family living in Central Florida in 1951.

When the son of their black foreman is abducted and killed by local members of the KKK, the family must decide whether to act and face persecution themselves or turn the other cheek to keep the peace.

“For those who think Central Florida is just mouse ears and theme parks, this play will open your eyes,”  Bauske says.

Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
